The heart
chakra (as expected) is about love.
It’s about both giving and receiving love.
Unfortunately, for many of us, giving and receiving love is easier when
another person is involved. It is
often much easier to love another person than it is to love ourselves. The problem with this scenario is until
we can fully love ourselves – flaws and all – it is difficult to fully love
another person. So, lets look at
ways to feed the heart chakra and move into a space where we can recognize and
love the uniqueness we all possess.
MIND
The phrase
associated with the heart chakra is I LOVE. Fill in the blank to create your mantra for the week – I LOVE
____________. Ideally, we are
filling in the blank with a person or a group of people. Even better would be to fill in the
blank with the word “myself.”
Unfortunately, we live in a world/society that focuses on the negatives. Somewhere along the way, we have
learned that we need to see our “flaws” or focus on the areas in ourselves that
we need to improve. As a result,
we end up believing that we are far less than we really are. To top it off, we have grown up with
the idea of competition and seeing how others may be “better” in certain areas
than we are. Let’s take some time
this week to recognize our uniqueness, our beauty and our light. Let’s realize that we deserve to be
loved by other people, but most importantly we deserve to be loved by
ourselves! Those around us will
thank us because not only will we feel good about who we are, but we will be
able to fully and completely give them the love they deserve.
BODY
Foods that
feed the heart chakra include cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, brussel
sprouts, califlower, etc.), leafy greens (kale, spinach, lettuce, etc.) &
sprouts, and green foods (peas, leeks, celery, kiwi, pears, etc.) The following recipe is appropriately
named the Heart Salad and comes from the book “Chakra Foods for Optimum Health” Enjoy : )
1 bunch of
fresh spinach
1 avocado,
diced into cubes
1 cup
broccoli, cut up into small pieces
1 tsp fresh
dill
½ cup
strawberries (sliced in half to resemble hearts)
½ cup
slivered almonds
¼ cup
flaxseed oil
¼ cup extra
virgin olive oil
¼ cup
balsamic vinegar
Combine
flaxseed oil, olive oil & balsamic vinegar in a small bowl or shaker cup
and mix well. Wash spinach
& put into a large serving bowl.
Add avocado cubes, broccoli and dill & mix together. Drizzle desired amount of dressing over
salad. Mix in strawberries and
almonds. Dish out &
enjoy!
