I SEE

We’ve come to a place in our journey where turning inwards is the key.  Last time with the throat chakra, we spent part of our time turning in to deeply listen to what our heart had to say, and the other part expressing out this truth that we learned.  With the third eye chakra we get ready to settle in and discover our inner world.  While the throat chakra was about finding our inner sounds, the third eye is more about inner seeing and the pictures, colors, visions, images, words, etc that are created in our mind.  Our mind is what is focused on in this energy center.  While the other chakras worked in some way with the body and were associated with various body parts or organs, the third eye starts to move away from the physical and is all about the workings of the mind.  Working with our thoughts (and trying to sort through the thoughts that are actually ours and those that come from other people) and creating a vision of what we want our life to look like (instead of allowing these pictures to develop unconsciously) is what the third eye chakra is all about.

MIND
The phrase associated with the third eye chakra is I SEE.  What do you want your life to look like?  How often do we sit down and actually think about this question?  Many of us allow life to happen to us.  Maybe we follow the societal script of what we are supposed to be doing or what our life is supposed to look like.  Maybe we’ve never felt like we have, or can have, control over our life.  Take some time to think about it this week.  Maybe narrow things down by choosing one area in your life.  Then think about something in this area that you would like, but don’t currently have and try to attach it to a word or short phrase.  Start to create an image in your mind of this thing that you would like and repeat the phrase I SEE _____________ (your intention).

BODY
Foods that feed the third eye chakra include those that are indigo (dark purplish blue) in color.  These include things such as blueberries, blackberries, eggplant, purple cabbage, raisins, etc.  Other foods that are good for the third eye are those that affect our brain function including caffeine (in moderation) and spices.  So, try new spices in your meals this week or enjoy some coffee, tea or chocolate : )

This week’s recipe is one that I winged a little bit.  It is one that I had made a few years ago, but couldn’t quite remember what recipe I had followed (maybe I also winged it the first time!)  So, it actually works perfectly for the third chakra as I had a vision of what I wanted, and I just allowed myself the freedom to be creative from there.  It uses phyllo pastry which some people may be scared off by, but trust me it is easy to work with.

Third Eye Phyllo Surprise
package of phyllo pastry
3 cups blueberries, blackberries or a mix of the two
½  cup sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
juice from a lemon
lemon zest from 1 lemon
butter

Allow the phyllo pastry time to thaw.  Mix together the cornstarch and sugar and pour over the berries along with the lemon and lemon zest.   Melt some butter in a small bowl.

Clear a work space where you can spread the pastry out flat.  Cut the sheets into 4 quarter sections, and place the sheets one on top of the other.  Begin by brushing the top sheet of phyllo pastry with butter.  Drop a small dollop of the berry mixture in the top corner of the pastry, then fold over the berry mixture to create a triangle (using only the top sheet).  Continue to fold the mixture making layered triangles until you reach the bottom of the sheet.  Brush both sides with butter and then place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.  Repeat until you either run out of filling or phyllo sheets.

Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

SPIRIT
Daydreaming is a good way to feed our spirit through the third eye chakra.  How often do we even imagine the possibilities that are available for us?  Jamie Paolinetti says “Limitations live only in our minds.  But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless”  Let’s allow ourselves to imagine that anything is possible.  Let’s allow ourselves to be playful and childlike.  Remember when we were kids and our imaginations ran wild?  We could do or be anything we wanted to.  There were no monetary, time, physical, etc. constraints.  This week, lets go back to this period.  Allow yourself time in the day to daydream and imagine and create pictures of how wonderful your life is.  Bring in as much details, as many colors, and as much feeling as you can.  Have fun with it and remember . . . anything is possible!!
Have a fantastic week of imagination, creativity and possibility.

See you on our mats,
Roxanne
