Samadhi Pada: Yoga of Being in the Now
    1.48 Rtambhara tatra prajna
1.49 Srutanumana prajnabhyam anya visaya visearthatvat
    • rtambhara = filled with truth / truth bearing
    • tatra = then / there
    • prajna = wisdom / consciousness

    • sruta = from sacred tradition / study of scripture
    • anumana = inference / reasoning
    • prajnabhyam = from that knowledge
    • anya = other
    • visaya = content / object
    • visearthatvat = relating to particular significance

Yoga is essentially a practice that believes in the goodness of all. Anything that comes across as not good is merely a result of programming, conditioning, beliefs, thoughts, etc that mask and cloud over the core of goodness that is at the heart of who we all really are. As we wind down to the close of the first pada (book, chapter, section), Patanjali lets us know what is available for any of us if we strip away the layers to reveal this central goodness.

The last sutra reminded us that we are amazing. These next two sutras let us know that REAL truth and wisdom are available to us when we get quiet and tap into our own central goodness. Sutra 1.48 lets us know that in a state of meditation (or sometimes simply getting quiet), our truth has space to be revealed. It's not the truth that our parents, or society or the media has told us, but a truth or deep knowing that we know in our hearts is correct and right for us. Sutra 1.49 tells us that the wisdom we acquire to get to this truth comes from our own direct experience. Knowledge from books, tradition, and scripture is great and can help direct us on our path, but this knowledge is indirect. Having our OWN experiences creates knowing and this knowing is powerful, reliable and true. To further drive home the importance of this, sutras 1.48 & 1.49 link back to sutra 1.7 and sutra 1.20 which also stress the importance of gaining wisdom through our own experiences in order to discover and KNOW what is our own truth.

As we continue to be immersed in a time of chaos and uncertainty in the world, I find solace in these sutras. As I struggle to make sense of the current world (globally and personally), I'm reminded that deep down lies the truth and within this truth is goodness. Your challenge for this week is to get quiet, tune in and S.A.T. (surrender, allow, trust). You know! You know what is right, you know what is true and you simply need to give yourself permission to experience what this feels like.
"Find the light and it will show you the path. The path that is shown by your own light is the only path that is right" - Osho

Sutra 1.48 Then wisdom will be filled with truth.
Sutra 1.49 From this wisdom relating to particular significance, comes a deeper
truth greater than knowledge gained from sacred tradition or inference.
